The Artist, Robert Maryboy, was raised by his maternal Grandparents during his boyhood years. The Grandfather, Hosteen Maryboy shared the creation stories to his Grandson.

Shiprock is one of the sacred places for the people of the Dineh Nation. People of the Dineh Nation named Tse Bit' ai, Shiprock, meaning rock with wings. Dineh Medicine men share the creations stories to the young and elder generation during the winter season when the animals are in hibernation.

Dineh people maintain the spiritual qualities that they found in all creation, every mountain, desert, river, stream and animal is encompassed by the Great Spirit.

One strength of the Dineh people is their belief that balance underlies the spiritual and physical entities of Earth. They strive for Hozhoogo a term that has no equivalent but may include beauty, balance and harmony.
May the Great Spirit be with you.
